Of all the projects any of the fudge tunnel members were involved with, this is the best well known, which for a band that was basically a joke, is saying something.
While Alex was living in Phoenix, having just moved there in 1992, he started playing with Max Cavalera (then of Sepultura), just to pass the time and have a laugh. One thing led to another, as they sometimes do when musicians get together, and they wrote a few songs and did a basic recording. The idea of putting an album out was suggested to them, I believe by Roadrunner, and so they did, never really expecting it to take off in the rather spectacular manner that it did, culminating in their one off performance at the Dynamo Festival in Holland.
Alex still sees this as a joke band, a laugh, nothing to take very seriously, and certainly holds in no more special a regard as any other project he's been involved with. Max, however, seems to view it slightly differently, and Soulfly even play Nailbomb songs live today. It's all a bit sad, really.
Roadrunner recently re-issued the Point Blank album, with 'bonus' tracks. Alex was not consulted about its release, and the bonus tracks were merely pulled straight off of the live Proud to Commit Commerical Suicide album.
Criticisms of the surrounding politics aside, Nailbomb was groundbreaking. It's fusion of punk, thrash and industrial noises influenced a whole spawn of imitators, most of them utter shite. It was a blast, short and to the point.
